Happy
Happy spent the first eight years of his life tied to a stake in a private backyard, where he had no shelter or companionship. His owners had bought him to keep their lawn trimmed and did not provide him with proper care or socialization.
Fortunately, some neighbors took pity on Happy and asked his owners if they could take him to MFS. When he arrived, Happy was scared of both goats and people. We soon solved this problem by showering him with lots of love and attention, including providing him with nutritious food, trimming his hooves, and spending many hours brushing and petting him.
Happy lived up to his name and turned into a lovable and sweet goat who easily made friends with our resident animals as well as staff and visitors. Because he had spent so much of his life outside in cold and damp conditions, Happy developed arthritis that gradually worsened. During his final years, he enjoyed lounging in a cozy stall with Murphy, another elderly goat. Happy passed away in October 2016 at 18 years old, well past the average lifespan of a goat of 10-12 years.
