Mercy
When Mercy arrived at MSF, she was so weak that she couldn’t even stand up. This little goat had been severely neglected: her bones were visible in her thin frame, her coat was patchy from untreated lice, and, worst of all, she was pregnant with a stillborn baby who had been left in her so long that she had become paralyzed.
While Mercy was also very timid and scared, she seemed to understand that we were there to help her. MFS founder Cheri removed her baby and begin the long process of nursing Mercy back to health. Through months of dedication and hard work, Mercy gradually gained weight, grew a soft new coat, and was able to walk again.
As Mercy got older, she developed arthritis and also had difficulty chewing hay. She spent her twilight years resting and taking it easy in our upper goat barn, and we also spoiled her with her favorite treat: mango-flavored baby food. Mercy passed away from old age in summer 2018, and we will always remember her sweet and gentle nature.
