Pius

Pius was born when Maple Farm was still a working dairy farm in the mid-1990’s. He and his fellow llamas, cows, and goats were the reasons MFS decided to become a sanctuary for animals instead of a farm in 1998. After our transformation, Pius was able to just enjoy being a llama, and he made the most of his time by spending his days lounging in the sun, taking dust baths, and hanging out with his animal friends.

Unlike some other llamas, Pius did not hesitate to walk right up to people to say “Hi!” He regularly came out to greet visitors and quickly charmed them with his laid-back personality.

When Pius was about 20 years old, his health started declining, and it was later discovered that he had cancer. We laid our beloved friend to rest in October 2016.
